How Secure is Secure?

In a perfectly secure IT world, no computer would be usable by any user; therefore, all the data on it would be safe.  Unfortunately, this scenario renders all computers a little less useful than a brick. Security would be content to keep all servers in a box and inaccessible.

Many corporate computer users hold the belief that the IT department would be perfectly happy if they could not use their machines at all.  The IT department constantly struggles with providing usability of all business services on 24 hours a day, seven days a week basis while also ensuring 24x7x365 days a year compete security.

It is difficult to achieve a balance between usability and security, and very often that balance must be skewed towards on or the other option based on the needs of the computer user or the business.
